If you are feeling stressed out, rundown or you feel like you need a break, the first most important thing to celebrate is the fact that you are recognising how you are feeling.
Acknowledging how you feel is a great start, because I know many people that just keep going until they’re burnt out. It’s much harder to recover when you’re burnt out or ill, than it is to tune up a little before it gets that far.
Now that you’ve started on the right foot, the question is, where to start ??? How do start to slow down and look after yourself, and what are the ways you can start feeling better?
Improving One Step At A Time
There are many ways to improve the way you feel, and how you look after yourself. What works for each individual varies. What works for you varies on your levels of stress, your genetic make up, your resilience, your age, gender and so forth…
My suggestion would be to focus on improving one area of your life at a time.
Try one thing first, see how your body responds, and then evaluate whether it’s worth to keep working on that area. If something does not work or does not sit within your budget or does not fit within your lifestyle, try something else.
In this article I am sharing some very basic but essential strategies to help you feel better.
Personally I know that most of our issues can be improved by getting enough deep sleep, adjusting our nutrition and most importantly by reducing stress.
Tip #1 – Catch Up On Sleep
I was recently listening to a podcast episode by Rob Dial from The Mindset Mentor, and he discussed the acronym HALT for finding out how you can deal with your anxiety or depression. Rob Dial suggest that you check out whether your basic needs have been met: HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired???). If you are hungry, you know you need to eat and nourish the body with good foods .
If you are Angry, you need to find out where this anger comes from and deal with it. If you’re lonely, it might be time to reach out to a friend – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’re tired, the simple strategy to start with is to get more sleep.
This is a total COST FREE solution that will certainly benefit you in many ways.
Catch up on some sleep:
- Add in a nap during the day
- Go to bed earlier than usual
- Have a sleep in and don’t set your alarm

Tip #2 – Play With Your Pets
Playing with your pets is a great way to feel better, relax and unwind.
Playing with animals isn’t just fun, it’s actually a really good way to take your attention off other things. When you’re very stressed at work, it’s hard to snap out of it and get focused on creativity or quality time with your family.
Give it a try, next time you feel stressed, play with your dog or cat, or you can even try to lay down on the couch and read a book, with your pet on your lap. The warmth of the animal is calm and soothing and focusing on their cute face will help you relax.
Tip #3 – IV Hydration
Intravenous (IV) therapy is a therapy that delivers liquid substances (saline solution) through a small catheter and tubing directly into the bloodstream.
This liquid solution usually includes medications or vitamin supplements that are tailored to the individual patient.
Tip #4 – Check Your Current Diet
Assess your current diet and reevaluate your nutritional intake. Check whether you’re getting the right nutrients such as protein, fats and carbs.
Have a superfood smoothie such as Amazon Warrior Signature Smoothie or try Anti-Inflammatory Golden Protein Shake Recipe (Golden Milk).
Making slight changes to your diet and culling out foods that are not nutritionally beneficial can make a big change to how you feel.
After all, it all starts in the gut. If you want to learn more about nutrition see also The Basics of a Healthy Diet + Sample Diet.
Tip #5 – Reduce Your External Stress Factors
I know this one is a no brainer – Reduce your stress.
Assess your current stresses by writing down:
- WHAT is creating the stress, and then
- assess WHAT you can do to reduce those stresses.
Incorporating a simple 5 minute breathing exercise is a great start or doing guided meditation is a great way to relax and unwind.

The Bottom Line
Catching yourself BEFORE you’re burning out is the lifesaver here, however I feel that the focus should really be on altering your lifestyle to avoid getting to that very stressful level all together.
Ask yourself, do you really think that your current lifestyle is sustainable? Do you think you can keep working, training, studying at this high level for the next 50 years? If the answer is yes, keep on going. But if the answer is no, now is definitely the time to take a look at the bigger picture. Are you doing the best you can for your long term health? Are you doing everything within your power to live a happy life? Or are you just grinding through the day… every… single…day …..
Making a change to a healthier lifestyle can be easy, it’s one step at a time.
Choose one thing from this post that you can focus on this week, and see how you feel.
Don’t forget to pass it on to a friend or loved one who might benefit from it.
