Do you live life to the full?
Here is how a Bucket List can help you structure your life and make the most of everyday!
What is a bucket list? Well a bucket list is a list of things you wish to do before you ‘kick the bucket’ (or in other words before you pass away). T
his list usually contains destinations you want to visit or things you want to do such as bungee jumping, scuba diving or sky diving. What most people don’t realize is that usually, you never tick all the things of your list as there is always an excuse such as ‘I don’t have enough time or money’.
You can now view the bucket list idea from a different point of view.
Did you know a bucket list is a great way to structure your life and make the most of everyday? A bucket list does not just need to contain destinations or things you wish to do, it can contain things you wish to achieve such as a happier life, a better job, or better health.
A traditional bucket list usually is only a dream, whereas ‘the new bucket list’ should give you some guidance on how to live your life to the most.
Too often do we live our lives on autopilot. We try to wake up in the morning, snooze the alarm, snooze again and then get up to realize we are running late. Then at work it’s the same daily deal and you come home feeling tired, down and not inspired. Wait a second, this is now why we are put onto the planet! This is not the way you should live your life as there a so many beautiful things to see do and experience. Here’s a little wake up call (everybody needs a little help sometimes)!
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln
As the quote above illustrates, it is not about the years in your life that count, it is the Life in your years that count. This means that you can be 99 years of age when you die, however have you achieved everything you wanted at that age? Do you really want to get that old and not have achieved all that you want? You should think about it like this: What do you regret when you are on your death-bed? Do you regret that one deadline you missed at work or do you regret not having lived life to the full
Well I know the answer, so let’s get started and remember that you get today (this day!) only once, so live it to the full and make the most of it!!!!
How do I create a bucket list to help live life to the full?
It’s easy, you can just create a list on a (nice) sheet of paper. Start thinking about things you would really not want to miss out on in life. Think once again about the question: What do you regret when you are on your death-bed? It might sound harsh, but it’s a great way to make you think about your life.
For the creative souls under us you can make your own mood board. Start by flicking through your old (travel) magazines. Have a browse and cut out all the words, photos or images that attract you or give you a good feeling. Once you have collected a nice pile of things, lay them out on a canvas and start moving them until you have a nice collage. Glue the pictures and words onto your canvas and if you wish you can add drawings, paint or written text to it to make it complete.
Your bucket list should give you joy every time you look at it or think about it. It should make you happy and it should make you want to live more, it should make you think: I don’t have enough hours in the day to achieve all this!! You should be so driven by your own Life that you forget to eat and forget the time. Once you have this feeling, you will see that your 8 hour (or sometimes 10) working day will fly by!!!! Here I speak from my own experience as my days at work just fly by!!!! For those who haven’t noticed, it’s already the 5th month of the year 2012!!! So once again, the aim is to live every day as if it’s your last and maximise your potential! You will only get today once, so make a difference now!! (The difference doesn’t be as radical as: I am going to live with a homeless person to experience real life, or, I will stop eating meat to make the world a better place. These are very extreme and not necessary but something in the way of: I will separate all recycling material as of today, or I will start writing a journal to measure my personal growth, are a great start!)
17 Tips to live life to the full
A bucket list is only a tool to assist you in living life to the full. Everyone lives their Life at their own terms, we all have our own values and have different things on our bucket lists. I have outlined below a few tips on how to live life to the full. It is just a list of ideas to give you some inspiration and to remind you that it can be your last day today, so once again, START LIVING LIFE TO THE FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can I live my Life to the full?
- Love. Love your partner, friends, family and every body else in this world! Love is one of those great feelings that make you feel a live (or sometimes not)
- Am I living my dream? Do you do what you love? Do you have passion for what you are doing? Live your Life on your terms and DO what you love! If you are not passionate about what you are doing you will not get very far. Don’t know what your passion is? Try some new things, sports, clubs, foods, arts etc. Read some interesting books, articles and blogs to find out what you love. Don’t let fear get in the way because life is too short to live only on the know side of life. Explore things you would usually not do, try something that scares you and overcome your fear.
- Savour food. Don’t just eat your food, but really enjoy it. Feel the texture, the bursts of flavours. Savor every bite. If you limit your intake of sweets, it will make the small treats you give yourself even more enjoyable. And when you do have them, really, really savor them.
- Appreciate. Appreciate everything you have in your Life. Appreciate your health, the home you live in, the friends you have, the family you have, the car bike or pet you have. Appreciate everything and realize how happy those things actually make you.
- What do you do for others? I believe you get the most out of life by not just taking what you can for yourself, but by giving to others. What have you done lately to help other people out? Have you been kind to people? Have you been compassionate? Have you been there for anyone? Have you listened? Have you volunteered for those in need? If you’re not doing anything to help others, this is a good time to figure out one thing you can do for someone, and put it into action. Ask this question on a regular basis, and make this kindness a habit.
- Create a morning ritual. Wake early (5am if possible) and greet the day, watch the sun rise, be grateful. Tell yourself that you will not waste this day, which is a gift. Tell yourself you will be compassionate to your fellow human beings, and live every moment to its fullest. Journal, stretch, meditate, exercise or do yoga as part of your ritual. It is believed that the early hours of the morning have magical strengths
- Find your passion. Try to find the things in life that excite you, and then go after them. Make life one exciting adventure after another. Find your passion, find your calling. Make your living by doing the thing you love to do. First, think about what you really love to do. There may be many things. Find out how you can make a living doing it. It may be difficult, but you only live once.
- Turn off the Television. How many hours will we waste away in front of the idiot box? How many hours do we have to live? Do the math, then unplug the TV. Only plug it back in when you have a DVD of a movie you love. Otherwise, keep it off! Life’s too short to be watching telly!!!!
- (Re)discover what’s important. During your daily morning ritual, start a list with things that are important to you. Once you have completed this list, read it daily as a reminder.
- Treat your body like a temple. As addressed earlier on this webpage, you only get your body once so look after it. It’s your temple so treat it like one. Nourish your body and look after it from the outside in and from the inside out. Exercise, meditate, do yoga, exfoliate and drink enough water. - Be positive. Learn to recognize the negative thoughts you have. These are the self-doubts, the criticisms of others, the complaints, the reasons you can’t do something. Then stop yourself when you have these thoughts, and replace them with positive thoughts. Solutions. You can do this! You are beautiful and fantastic!
- Volunteer.Learn compassion, and learn to help ease the suffering of others. Help the sick, those with disabilities, those who are dying, or just those around the corner who need a little hand.
- Talk to old people. You will learn from them and they will appreciate our chat.
- Learn new skills. Try to constantly improve yourself instead of standing still. You should accept yourself as you are, and learn to love who you are, but still try to improve — if only because the process of improvement is life itself.
- Find spirituality. For some, this means finding God or Jesus or Allah or Buddha. For others, this means becoming in tune with the spirits of our ancestors, or with nature. For still others, this just means an inner energy. Whatever spirituality means for you, rediscover it, and its power.
- Watch This is Way of Life.
- Watch the movie Eat Pray Love with Julia Roberts.
