Homemade energy balls are simple to make and are an easy on-the-go nibble. You can simply enjoy before or after your gym work-out, or as a treat to pop into your lunch boxes. This No-bake protein energy balls recipe is cheap, delicious and more nutritious than anything you can buy commercially (read processed!) So here is what you’ll need for my quick and easy Energy Ball Recipe:
Energy Ball Recipe Ingredients
- Nuts (almond, peanut, walnut, hazelnut) probably 1 cup
- 1 bag of dates (probably 500g)
- Honey (any kind will do however if you have healthy manuka honey, use that)
- Desiccated coconut
- a sprinkle of hot water
- Food processor or blender (I don’t have a food processor so a blender works just fine)
You can also add healthy chia seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds but the above ingredients are just for the basic recipe.
Energy Ball Recipe Method
Grind the nuts and seeds in a food processor until ground into a fine flour. Clean out the processor and blend the dates into a fine paste. Then mix it all together and add some warm water to make it sticky. Then add honey to make it more sticky. When it’s all mixed together, place in a dish and allow to cool in the fridge for approximately 2 hours as it then makes it easier to roll the mixture into balls and roll in shredded coconut. (you can skip this step if you don’t have time or patience).
Then roll into balls and roll into desiccated coconut or cocoa powder.
The result: Yummy Energy Balls
Once you’re done making your energy balls, you can enjoy them right away, or keep them covered in the refrigerator, where they’ll stay fresh for at least a few days.
