IV Hydration – Everything You Need To Know

Hi everyone! I recently got very rundown so I decided to look for alternative healing options. In this blog post I will be sharing my first experience of IV hydration.

Being an advocate for living a healthy life does not mean that I never get sick nor get rundown (I simply try to find the best ways to keep healthy and fit using a holistic approach).

Unfortunately getting sick or run down is part of life. I believe that there are many ways that we can avoid getting sick or that we at least can look at ways to improve our health and make choices to optimally live our healthiest life yet.

When you get rundown…

When you get rundown, you can feel lethargic, tired, sleepy, not energetic or you might have symptoms such as cold sores due to low immunity, or you might get the sniffles or a headache. This is all very annoying but this is a sign from the body telling you that something is out of balance.

Personally for me it is important to understand the what and why behind it all. Once I understand why the body is rundown or in pain, then I can make adjustments. For example if I have had a bad sleep and slept with a crook neck, then having a headache the next day might not be such a surprise. I know that the following night I simply have to focus on adjusting my pillow and sleeping on my back with a level neck. That hopefully will fix it up if that does not work I might try the chiropractor.

But when you get rundown, it might be a different game and not such an easy fix. Ask yourself why are you a rundown? Are you taking on too much work,? Are you not having enough rest? Is your diet providing you with all the nutrients it needs? Or have you got too much stress in your life right now? There are simple ways to Fix some of those issues such as by incorporating a healthy diet, daily exercise and also by incorporating yoga, mindfulness and meditation practices into your life. Yes I hear you I know you are busy, so am I. We are always so busy with being busy, but we sometimes forget to tune into who we really are.

I was recently very rundown and so I have taken the time to uncover the what and why behind my situation. I discovered that I did not get enough sleep, and that I had too much stress in my life.

So I have taken the bull by the horns and made some changes. These include reducing stress in my life, improve sleep and aiding the body’s recovery with an IV Hydration Session.

What is IV hydration ?

Intravenous (IV) therapy is a therapy that delivers liquid substances (saline solution) through a small catheter and tubing directly into the bloodstream. This liquid solution usually includes medications or vitamin supplements that are tailored to the individual patient.

I went to a clinic that provided me with an intravenous multivitamin boosting solution.

During therapy, the nurse inserts an IV line which is attached to a bag of saline solution. The bag is then hung above the patient’s head. IV therapy bags are designed to let gravity, as opposed to a syringe or other forced technique, carry fluid into the veins over time. The duration of a single treatment varies from person to person, but tends to last around an hour.

IV drips are also known as infusion therapy or IV therapy. Unlike oral or topical medications, IV drips are 100% absorbed by the body. This means that IV drips are the fastest way to deliver supplements and simultaneously rehydrate the body.

This intravenous vitamin infusion helps replenish the body at a cellular level which intern can assist in improvement and maintenance of health and immunity, this may also help physical recovery when you need to perform at your best.

So why intravenous (IV)?

IV administration bypasses the digestive system which allows for 100% absorption of the vitamins minerals and antioxidants that I put into the fluid drip administered to the body. Did you know that only 20 to 30% of vitamins we ingest from food or supplements actually get absorbed? The remainder are excreted. Intravenous vitamin therapy is a powerful root of administration and absorption, as divide amends minerals and antioxidants are infused directly into the bloodstream and I transported straight to your cells.

My first IV Hydration session

To find out what the benefits of IV hydration really are, I undertook a session myself. I had a multivitamin booster to help me feel better and assist my overall health and immunity. The process itself was very simple. The staff are very knowledgeable and super friendly so even if you feel uncomfortable with needles this really is not a big deal as you don’t even notice a prick.

The IV hydration session only took about 30 minutes and was not uncomfortable at all. You are seated in a reclining chair with comfy fluffy blankets and whilst undergoing this therapy you can either listen to your music or podcasts that you might have brought (or chat to your friends who are there to hold your hand lol)

The session went very quickly and was not painful at all. I actually quite enjoyed it as it was a relaxing 30 minutes just to myself.

Post treatment you do not feel anything. It is not an instant quick fix. However over the following days (in combination with good sleep and oral hydration) I started to feel better. My energy levels started to pick up and my lethargy was slowly going away.

IV Hydration Therapy Benefits

  • Delivering hydration and vitamins via the intravenous routes means there is 100% absorption of these essential elements.
  • Intravenous vitamin therapy is the fastest way to potentially restore optimum hydration, stimulate and support the immune system.
  • Replenishes vitamins: The human body works best when it has a healthy balance of essential vitamins and is hydrated.
  • Due to the fact that hydration and vitamins are directly delivered via the blood stream, the onset of effect is usually very fast.
  • Rehydrating the body and vitamin input is beneficial in improving the body’s energy levels.

My Top Tips To Improve Your Wellbeing When Feeling Run Down

There are many ways to assist the body in recovery. Now I do not recommend a shotgun approach in which you try many different things as you may not know WHAT actually worked best as you tried many different things at once. Rather, take an approach that’s feasible and work with the things that are within your reach and budget.

Most of my blog is focused on simple, low cost (alternative healing) methods that you can try yourself. Personally I feel that most of our issues can simply be resolved by getting enough deep sleep, adjusting our nutrition and most importantly by reducing stress.

  1. Try an IV Hydration session (if this is within your budget).
  2. Catch up on some sleep (add in a nap during the day, go to bed early and have a sleep in). This is a total COST FREE solution that will certainly benefit you in many ways. Also see my post on how you can get a better sleep tonight.
  3. Assess your current diet and reevaluate your nutritional intake (have a superfood smoothie such as Amazon Warrior Signature Smoothie or try Anti-Inflammatory Golden Protein Shake Recipe (Golden Milk) or try a warm soothing spiced drink). Making slight changes to your diet and culling out foods that are not nutritionally beneficial can make a big change to how you feel. After all, it all starts in the gut. If you want to learn more about nutrition see also The Basics of a Healthy Diet + Sample Diet
  4. Reduce your stress. Assess your current stresses by writing down WHAT is creating the stress, and then assess WHAT you can do to reduce those stresses. Incorporating a simple 5 minute breathing exercise is a great start. Also see Simple Self Care Tips For A Healthy Body, Mind & Soul and see Stressed? Overwhelmed? Final Thoughts

If you ask me whether I’d do IV hydration again, I would say YES! Knowing that I support my body at a cellular level is worth so much more than just popping vitamin pills orally and given that my body responded well to it I will be adding this to my health regimen on a quarterly basis or as required.

If you’re keen to try IV hydration keep in mind:

  • Choose a professional clinic (not some backdoor pop up stall)
  • Bring your own music or podcast to listen to whilst you undergo the treatment
  • Ensure you wear comfy clothes (e.g. wear a zip up that you can easily take off as the IV goes in your vain in your arm)
