Caroline’s Coconut Oil & Mushroom Coffee Recipe

Have you heard of Mushroom Coffee? I had not heard of this until I started listening to podcasts by Ben Greenfield and Jay Shetty, and now I’m totally hooked! I won’t go a day without my mushroom coffee and below this post I’ll share my favourite recipe with you.

Why Coconut Oil & Mushroom Coffee?

It is as simple as it sounds. It’s a normal coffee brew with some added coconut oil and mushroom extract.

I add coconut oil to my coffee because it tastes yum AND has some health benefits including:

  1. Coconut oil is high in fats called medium chain triglycerides, which are metabolised differently than most other fats. These special fats are responsible for a lot of the health benefits of coconut oil (source)
  2. The fatty acids in coconut oil can significantly reduce appetite, which may lead to reduced body weight over the long term.
  3. Coconut oil can also be applied topically, with studies showing it to be effective as a skin moisturiser and protecting against hair damage.

Ingredients
  1. Brew your usual coffee (as per normal)
  2. Add a dash of cinnamon powder
  3. Add your favourite sweetener (if applicable)
  4. Add your favourite MCT oil (I use unrefined coconut oil)
  5. Add your favourite milk (I use lactose free skim milk)
  6. Add a scoop of your favourite mushroom blend (my favourite mix contains lions mane, cordyceps, reishi, shiitake, and chaga)
